Torrance man arrested after a street racing crash in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov 4, 2024) – Anaheim Police investigators have arrested Hassan Hamid Ali, a 20-year-old Torrance man, for a hit-and-run traffic collision that was captured on video during a street racing incident.

On November 1, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Anaheim Police officers responded to S. State College Blvd. and E. Orangewood Ave. regarding an intersection taken over by street racers. As officers responded to the scene, there were additional reports that two pedestrians were struck by one of the vehicles, which prompted Anaheim Fire and Rescue personnel to respond. When emergency services personnel arrived, they located two pedestrians with severe injuries lying in the street next to a black Dodge Charger. Both subjects were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. They were identified as two 19-year-old teenagers, and their injuries included broken bones, lacerations, and abrasions.

The driver of the Charger left the scene before officers arrived. However, the vehicle was still there.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officers learned that both pedestrians, who were spectators during this incident, were struck by the black Charger as the driver spun out of control. It was reported that these subjects had been run over and were trapped underneath the Charger for a short time.

Several videos of this incident began appearing on social media, capturing the collision between the Charger and the pedestrians. This caused significant community concern and further media inquiries.

Investigators received additional tips and videos from members of the public after the incident was shared with the local media. Based on the information they received and the work of the initial officers who responded, investigators identified the driver, Mr. Hassan Hamid Ali.
