On May 12, 2024, at approximately 07:06 a.m., police pfficers responded to the intersection of Slater Avenue and Santa Maria Street regarding a bicyclist down, according to the Fountain Valley Police Department.

Upon arrival, Officers discovered a male bicyclist, who had sustained traumatic injuries, on the south sidewalk of Slater Avenue just west of Santa Maria Street.

The vehicle involved in the incident fled the area.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the bicyclist to a local hospital. The bicyclist succumbed to his injuries one day later and was pronounced deceased. The victim was identified as 52-year-old Antonio Huerta of Huntington Beach. The victim’s family has been notified.

The investigation revealed that the unknown suspect vehicle was traveling eastbound on Slater Avenue from Newland Street. The vehicle entered the bicycle lane and struck the bicyclist. The unknown vehicle did not stop and fled eastbound Slater Avenue.

FVPD Investigators are requesting anyone with information that could lead to the identification of the vehicle and driver to contact the FVPD Traffic Bureau at 714-593-4481. Incident #24-14620.
