The gang violence in our city reached a new peak today as a Santa Ana police officer was injured and one suspect was hit by gunfire, according to the O.C. Register.
SAPD police officers showed up at the 2700 block of McFadden Ave. at 3:28 p.m., in response to a call about a shooting. The police closed off part of McFadden Avenue and Sullivan Street during their investigation.
Police found that one suspect had been wounded.
As it turned out SAPD gang officers were engaged in what they call “proactive enforcement” in that area, which is essentially a residential area with apartment complexes. SAPD officers made contact with a male suspect and suddenly shots were exchanged.
An SAPD police officer was grazed in his upper torso with at least one round, and the suspect was hit – but the SAPD did not reveal how many times the suspect was hit. Both the police officer and the suspect were in stable condition.
The unidentified police officer was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center and the suspect was taken to UCI Medical Center as what is referred to as a “moderate trauma” patient, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
The police detained one person. The police did not make clear if he was injured by gunfire.
