$560,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from a victim’s car in broad daylight off the 22 Freeway on Thursday.
Garden Grove police officers responded to the scene at around 12:41 p.m., near the intersection of Magnolia Street and Trask Avenue, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.
The victim, who was transporting the jewelry in their vehicle, exited the eastbound 22 Freeway offramp at Magnolia Avenue.
A silver van then stopped directly in front of the victim’s vehicle. Three male suspects, who are believed to be in their 30s, got out of the van, approached the victim and smashed out the rear windows of the car.
The suspects then reached into the rear seat of the victim’s vehicle and took a bag containing the jewelry. It is not known why the victim had so much jewelry in the car.
The suspects then returned to their van and tried to leave but the victim pursued them, and eventually collided with their van. However that collision served only to disable the victim’s own vehicle. The suspects got away with the jewelry.
The Garden Grove police need the public’s help to try to determine who the suspects were. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information about it is asked to call Detective Dennis Wardle at (714) 741-5837 or GGPD investigations at (714) 741-5800.
