There are now 570 COVID-19 cases in Santa Ana as of May 12

Today, May 12, the OC Health Care Agency reported a total of 3,602 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Orange County and 570 cases in Santa Ana. The Santa Ana case numbers don’t include infected inmates in County jails.

One new death was reported today. To date 77 victims have died in Orange County. There were 62 new cases filed today. There are currently 230 victims in local hospitals and 100 of them are in Intensive Care Units.

• Anaheim reports 545 cases
• Huntington Beach reports 270 cases
• Garden Grove reports 186 cases
• Orange reports 173 cases
• Irvine reports 143 cases
• Buena Park reports 109 cases
• Newport Beach reports 132 cases
• Fullerton reports 130 cases
• Westminster reports 61 cases
• Tustin reports 55 cases
• Costa Mesa reports 51 cases
• Fountain Valley reports 41 cases

The California Department of Public Health today announced the most recent statistics on COVID-19 as of May 12. California now has 69,382 confirmed cases and 2,847 deaths.

The CDC reports these nationwide cases, as of May 12:

• TOTAL CASES: 1,342,594
• 18,106 New Cases
• TOTAL DEATHS: 80,820
• 1,064 New Deaths

Health Care Worker Infection Rates

As of May 11th, local health departments have reported 7,274 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 39 deaths statewide. As data is updated the information is re-evaluated. In this instance, the number was adjusted accordingly and decreased by one.

How People Can Protect Themselves and Others

Every person has a role to play. Protecting yourself and your family comes down to common sense: 

• Staying home except for essential needs/activities
• Practicing social distancing.
• Wearing a cloth face mask when out in public.
• Washing hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
• Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Covering a cough or sneeze with your sleeve, or disposable tissue. Wash your hands afterward.
• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
• Staying away from work, school or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.
• Following guidance from public health officials.

Call ahead: If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough or shortness of breath), call your health care provider before seeking medical care so that appropriate precautions can be taken.
