The Santa Ana Jail has started a new Book Club for inmates with the support of the Santa Ana Public library.
“We are excited to embark on this literary journey with the Santa Ana Public Library. Our commitment to rehabilitation and community engagement remains steadfast, and we are confident that the Book of the Month Club will be a meaningful step in that direction,” said Jaime Manriquez Jail Administrator of the Santa Ana Police Department.
The Santa Ana Jail Book Club will be an impactful program exclusively for inmates at the Santa Ana Jail. The City of Santa Ana is hoping to open doors to new perspectives and inspiring positive change via this new transformative journey.
Without the internet, books are a primary source of learning and entertainment for people in prison. Most prisons do not allow friends and loved ones on the outside to send things directly to people in prison. Books must usually be shipped directly from a retailer, publisher, or an approved nonprofit. Not many incarcerated people have families or networks with enough disposable income to purchase books at retail price according to the Prison Book Program.
