The City of Santa Ana has entered into negotiations with the Chivas USA soccer team, with a goal of relocating them to the Willowick Golf Course – with perhaps a temporary home at Eddie West Field.
According to a City of Santa Ana press release, “the potential move to Santa Ana would include their Major League team, reserve division, youth teams, and their non-profit foundation, which focuses on community service projects and programs.”
“In these trying economic times, I am pleased that a Major League Soccer team would consider relocating to our city to bring much needed resources. Chivas’ presence would create recreational amenities and programs for youth, bring economic development opportunities to our businesses, and revitalize areas within our city,” stated Mayor Miguel Pulido.
When I first heard about this proposed deal I wrote the article below, which remains relevant to the conversation:

The xenophobic NIMBYs that are opposing the proposed Chivas USA Soccer Stadium complex at the Willowick Golf Course are ranting and raving about how the team won’t be supported by non-Latinos. A closer look at this franchise reveals that Santa Ana’s “Usual Suspects” are wrong again.

The NIMBYs are also saying that Santa Ana’s residents won’t be able to afford Chivas tickets. Wrong again haters.

Packages start from $59 and come with (4) four tickets PLUS your choice of (1) one parking pass or (4) four hot dogs! You also have the option to add-on to your pack.
The Chivas USA also offer a birthday pack, with prices as low as $15 per ticket! And they offer a five game plan with tickets as low as $10 each.
The fact is, the Chivas USA are a much better deal than playing golf at the Willowick Golf Course, which will set you back $25 plus another $24 for a golf cart – and if you play on the weekend you will have to pay a whopping $37 plus the cart fee!
As we noted in our previous article, if the deal goes through, the Chivas USA team will initially play at Santa Ana’s Eddie West field, which will be greatly improved in the process. Then they will move to the new facility at the Willowick Golf Course.

Chivas USA moving to Santa Ana can be a game changer for our city.
Moving to Santa Ana will help Chivas USA build its own identity and get them out of the shadow of the LA Galaxy. They will find a rabid fan base here in Santa Ana where soccer is king among its residents.
As long as Chivas USA plays at the Home Depot Center they will play second fiddle to the Galaxy much like the Clippers do to the Lakers at Staples Center.
Hmmmm......... I smell about $500,000.00+ success fee.

Santa Ana should be re-named Soccer City and more soccer fields should be built throughout our town. We could be a training grounds, like Colorado Springs for the Olympics. With Police Chief as City Manager and Mayor who blames prior City Manager for all failures while approving every item on the agenda submitted to him, for 20 years by his single vote, the Chivas USA is the final nail into City's coffin.
There never was an instance when Pulido would vote against the Manager and council would overwrite Pulido's vote.

There is no USA in Santa Ana.
However, I am for this reckless move by Pulido and Company so the Santa Ana finely goes bankrupt and the instigators arrested.
Who is going to be the owner?
Chivas is a team and a part time renter at he Carson facility.
A white billionaire from Colorado is the owner of the stadium in Carson. He got the University to give up the land for some stadium use, and Who took the risk on issuing the tax free bonds to pay for the development? (Hint a city or government agency issues those bonds backed by the taxpayers)
In Anaheim the city taxpayers are the owners of the Pond and Stadium, but the city residents must pay full fare to get in and enjoy the shows. (Except for the city council and management who get free tickets and other benefits)
And where is the golf course and radio station and other businesses located at Willowick going to be relocated to? The city is required to relocate within the city any business that is forced out due to the taking of property for public purposes, and pay all cost involved.
So who is going to be the owner?
The City of Garden Grove owns Willowick and according to Pulido they support the Chivas proposal.
I think this deal is a longshot but I hope it goes through.

However, you have elected to surround your self with losers and lumpenproletariat and the results of your isolation are clearly evident.
If you want succeed you must have 5 years realistic Business Plan including study, the stadium should be located on the top of Santa Ana river in the industrial section of it, creating sport center mall, with plenty of parking, including the Red Light district so the OC employes do not have to bang their coworkers over the conference tables.
