Santa Ana Zoo kicks off 2010 summer concert series this Sunday

This Sunday, the Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo kick off the 2010 Summer concert series with 2 shows.

“Blues at the Zoo” kicks off at 3:00 on the front lawn with the Mighty Mojo Prophets.

These guys have toured the Blues festival circuit and are coming to Santa Ana to help set off the concert season. Playing vintage Blues, Chicago style and jump swing, this should be a great show.

The “Blues at the Zoo” show is from 3-5pm on the front lawn just inside the Zoo, and is included with your regular Zoo admission. (Bring your own folding chair or blanket for lawn seating.)

“Sunset at the Zoo” is the afterhours show and features Peggie Perkins and her band.

Bring a picnic supper and the whole family, a comfy chair or blanket, and get ready for some fun. There’s an exhibition by local artists, a kids area, $1 train and carousel rides, docents will bring a few animals out, and more.

Peggie Perkins has traveled the world performing, and you may have seen her at one of the Wilshire Square concerts or any of several fine restaurants around Orange County. She does a variety of genres and her shows are always a good time.
The “Sunset at the Zoo” show is from 5:30-7:30 pm, and is a special event after the Zoo is closed. Admission is only $10 or $5 for Zoo members (another great reason to be a member of the Zoo)

The Zoo shows are a lot of fun, and a great way to help support the Zoo. We know the city is in a bad financial way, so all proceeds from these events stay right in the Zoo and will go to the Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo, (a 501(c)3 nonprofit) and will be used for new animals and exhibits, Zoo educational programs, animal enrichments, events, and other Zoo improvements.

The “Sunset at the Zoo” concerts are also sponsored by Villa Ford, Parties by Panache, and RWB Party Props.

Other shows this season will be The Blues Cruisers and The Ron Kobayashi Trio on June 27, and the Big Son, Mighty Mitch, and Friends Blues Pro Jam followed by Elnora and Sumpthin’ Cookin’ on July 18.
