COUNCILMAN ROMAN REYNA
SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL
20 CIVIC CENTER PLAZA
P.O. BOX 1988, M31
SANTA ANA, CA 92701

Dear Councilman Reyna,

I write on behalf of the Santa Ana Police Officers’ Association, its Board of Directors and Political Action Committee.

It has come to our attention that you, along with two other men, recently posed for a photograph that was posted on Facebook. We find it very disturbing that you posed with these men. Both are known to Orange county law enforcement as being affiliated with Santa Ana criminal enterprises. Furthermore, the individual believed to have posted the photograph identified you in his post as the “the new Mayor of Santana old homie from the hood…”

We are aware many friends can be called a “homie” and people do identify themselves as living in or being from the “hood”. These words alone should not produce a negative opinion of another person. However, when coupled with a photograph of known members of a Santa Ana criminal enterprise, and posted on an Internet social media website, we feel that far exceeds mere poor judgment. As a city policymaker, this photograph and comments presents the appearance and perception of your lack of ability to be a trustworthy and effective community leader.

Accordingly, we feel that it is important you formally respond to this issue and the negative reaction your decision has caused. Please respond in writing addressed to “Members of the Santa Ana Police Officers’ Association,”

1607 N. Sycamore, Santa Ana, CA 92701.

Sincerely,

JOHN FRANKS

  • Funny how people assume the worst. He did a documentary about how where he was raised and how he CHANGED to become a successful man.

    • Assumptions aside, Roman is an extremely poor speaker, he doesn't communicate well, I\he has trouble forming his thoughts, he is admittedly learning impared (dyslexic), claims to have a High School diploma, but no college.

Change for Roman would be the cashier at the carwash, given his credentials, but mayor of the fourth most densely populated city in America. Pardon the "Dense" pun.
He is WOEFULLY unprepared to lead.

He should get a job and earn a reputation, that's what LEADERS do.

Please tell us about America barracho and how she slid him into the "wellness center",

  • I was going to take a picture with Roman Reyna at the SAUSD debate was intimidated they might think I belonged to the mafia. So I didn't.
    #ihavenogangaffiliatio

    • I was going to take a picture with Roman too, then I asked myself why in the world would I want a picture of me and an unemployed high school dropout?

So I instead chose to take my picture with a higher class, more intelligent and more qualified to serve candidate, Steve Rocco.

  • At a recent public meeting, Mr. Reyna advocated putting a facility for the homeless in the city owned lot at Civic Center and English. Just thought the neighbors there around El Salvador Park would like to know what is in store for them. This comment by Reyna was made on the record. At the same meeting Ms. Martinez advocated taking storage facilities away from Bpwers Museum and giving the storage to the homeless, also on the record.

  • I'm actually glad that Roman considers everyone in the community as a community member. He's not dehumanizing anyone whether they've gone through a "right" or "wrong" path. Good job Roman! Do not belittle anyone :)

    • Roman left the dehumanizing to the pedophile priest he held in such high regard that he led the effort to honor him. Good job Roman!

  • Growing up and to be of Hispanic decent and or grow up in a city like Santana automatically you are labeled as a gang member or you have some sort of ties w/ others who are considered gang members. And sure when you break the law yes you go to jail along with multiple charges or enhancements that are thrown . But can you tell me what the difference is with those in uniform who commit probably similar if not more crimes , why are they able to hide behind the badge and have their actions be justified? Oh, because the badge protects them. But we don't refer to them as gang members but officers!! Bunch of bullshit!!!

    • How many people have the gangs killed this year versus those killed by cops? And of those shot by cops how many were actually innocent? The numbers don't lie. The gangs are the problem, not the cops.

          • I would say that Reyna did himself in. Posing with dangerous gang bangers during an election was not smart on Reyna's part.

But not voting really isn't an option. I would rather have two more years of Pulido than let the gangs take over City Hall.

We have two years then to find a decent candidate for 2016 particularly since the Mayor has told me that he most likely will retire by then.

Look how many great school board candidates we have this year! Surely we can drum up a few decent Mayoral candidates as well. Gang bangers need not apply...

  • For those of you on the outside looking in, Yes you biased fools who do NOT know a thing about Santa Ana. I have known these men since we played little league baseball at El Salvador park back in the 70's. We have all chosen our paths in life, some successful and others not so successful. The majority of us are buisness owners, Law Enforcement officers, home owners, Doctors, Nurses and hard working blue collar productive members of society. So what that being said, Mr. Reyna should not be LINCHED or thrown in a den of hungry lions because of people we have known since childhood. I am proud and lucky to say that I have friends from my old neighborhood that go back 30+ years that I can call HOMIES! { Please respond to my comment and let me know what you think. Folks from the neighborhood, SAPD and whoever that has a voice and wants to be heard.} Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely,
Just an old friend from the neighborhood.

    • These guys have been identified by the police as active members of the Mexican Mafia. That is why the police rejected Reyna and that is why they have asked him to explain himself.

    • Exactly hoe many Doctors and nurses came out of El Salvador park old friend.

Reyna himself is uneducated, unemployed and ill equipped to lead. So far he has refused to speak out. Telling me he is embarassed of his "Homies".

  • It takes a little man to bring up someone's sibling for his past {dying in prison] obviously "Editor" has a sparkling clean family and squeaky clean friends. If you can't say anything good about someone don't say anything, remember "karma" is a bitch !!!!

    • You mean like when Reyna attacked Pulido's brother for having tax problems even though those problems were caused by the City's PBID program? Or when Benavides and his goons attacked Pulido's kids two years ago?

  • Roman Reyna like any other person knows people being called a homie doesn't mean he is in a gang he knows the struggle to be someone in life his intention' s are not bad I heard a lot of police officers that call other people homie when your getting pulled over ect. He has my vote
