Santa Ana gangbanger convicted of killing a taco truck customer

Junior Gil, a 27-year-old gangbanger, was convicted Thursday of a series of robberies and killing of 31-year-old Jesse Ruben Gomez, in front of a taco truck in Santa Ana.

Gil shot Gomez on Dec. 9, 2018, in the evening, near South Kilson Drive and East St. Andrews Place, according to the prosecutors.

A witness told the responding SAPD police officers about a robbery that took place nearby along a bike trail. There were also other witnesses and victims of robberies along the trail who gave the police descriptions of the suspects.

When the police officers arrived, Gomez’s uncle was trying to revive his nephew at the scene. The uncle said he was outside his home when his nephew went to get tacos from a food truck. The uncle then heard gunshots, and he found his nephew when he drove to the location.

In addition to being convicted of first-degree murder, Gil was also convicted of a count of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery. The jurors also affirmed sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm and gang activity.

Gil will be sentenced on Jan. 7.

Santa Ana Mayor Vince Sarmiento and City Councilman Johnathan Ryan Hernandez have not yet confirmed if they think that Gil was just having mental health issues when he killed Gomez.

    • For all the murders occurring in his city by gangbangers the Mayor should invest in taco trucks with SWAT teams inside!

  • He's guilty mayor get off your quack wagon that's my nephew and that loper killed him disgusting black head he was out robbing people for his habit stupid bitch didn't realize when they killed hi they ran thru his family street ..they didn't have to kill him. Pussys! Good luck up state...

  • Mayor Sarmiento and councilman Hernandez, Jr. Gil knew what he was doing at the time he robbed the 2 homeless men, he was also aware of what he was doing when he shot and killed my nephew Jesse, so how can you say that he has mental issues which is not true, Jr. Gil chose to be a Loper gang member,I truly believe that he’s a danger to society and doesn’t deserve to be free on the streets of Santa Ana. He did the crime, he needs to do the time. So Jr. don’t cry about it, don’t be a bitch about it, you were man enough to pull the trigger, you got it coming now and you want to play innocent, when you were caught on camera, your parents even saw the video of you doing the crime how sad.

    • What needs to be done is get rid of that crooked council who were once gang bangers to and gang cops what a joke get rid of who hired them he's their body guards wKe up SANTA ANA we are now a corrupted city.
