SANCHEZ ANNOUNCES 2014 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), co-chair of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition, today announced the start of this year’s competition, “An Artistic Discovery.” This nationwide high school art competition recognizes the artistic talents of each Congressional district. Since 1982 more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

“Every year, we have the honor of recognizing home-grown talent through the annual Congressional Art Competition,” said Sanchez. “We will be looking for a piece that captures the culture and vibrant life in Orange County. I am excited to see how each student interprets this year’s theme, ‘An Artistic Discovery,’ and translates it into a unique piece of artwork.”

Students are encouraged to submit an original artistic piece that reflects the theme for this year’s competition, which is “An Artistic Discovery.” The winning artwork will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year, along with winning pieces from other Congressional districts, and the winning artist will receive two plane tickets to visit Washington, D.C., for an unveiling ceremony for all the winners. The first place winner will also be awarded a college scholarship to an art institution.

Final submissions, including the completed Student Entry and Release Form, must be submitted by Friday, April 18, 2014, to the Congresswoman’s District Office between the hours of 8:30 am- 5:30 pm. The forms are available at http://lorettasanchez.house.gov/congressional-art-competition.
