UPDATE: This post has been read 299 times as of August 13, at 11:30 pm. But only one Santa Ana Council candidate has been forthright enough to answer the questions posed below. Remember that on Election Day – if candidates don’t want to tell us where they stand on the issues that matter then they don’t deserve our votes!
Santa Ana City Council candidates usually run on pithy slogans and empty posturing – but as our city continues to struggle with budget issues, having essentially kicked the budget can down the road, it is time for our Council candidates to face the music – and tell us what they think about the issues we face in our city today.
I am challenging our Council candidates to answer these questions, right here on this blog. Take note voters – the candidates who choose not to answer don’t deserve your votes, period.
Readers – if you would like to pose any additional questions please submit them as comments to this post. Let’s see which candidates actually are going to be transparent about what they stand for. Here are my questions:
Let’s see which council candidates are actually willing to tell us where they stand on these and other issues. If they refuse to do so that will be very telling indeed.

Congratulations to you and your wife Mr. Pedroza for raising a great family who it sounds like have already accomplished more than many adults will in a lifetime. Felicidades! It just goes to show you that Santa Ana schools are NOT as bad as some people say they continue to graduate accomplished students ready for the best Universities in EEUU!
Whatever you do, don't ask if they are faithful in their marriages. That could pose a huge problem for one of the mayoral candidates.
Dear Mr. Pedroza,
Since you are the voice of truth regarding Santa Ana politics( in my opinion) I have a question. Another local blog is saying that Sarmiento, Martinez, Tinajero and Benavides are teaming up with Council Candidates Alderete and Reyna to take over the city and school board and collge board. They claim to have the support and volunteers from the La Raza Lawyers, All Labor Unions, and the Santa Ana high wrestling team to walk door to door.
Here are my questions.
1) Is this a good thing? (I like Roy Alvarado from what I have heard so far. He didn't just move into town and comes from our community.)
2) If the current Council feels so strongly why have they voted in lock step with Mayor Pulido... voting with him 99.99999% if the time up to this point?
3)I'm all for change in Santa Ana but like the Arab spring in Egypt and around the world...I wonder who will take over if they win and will my life as a Santa Ana resident really be any better?
Thank you for your un-biased reporting on Santa Ana.
Thanks for the kind words.
I saw that article, in the Voice of OC. I also spoke to Martinez at the recent Alderete fundraiser. She is definitely working hard on this "revolution" but nothing is certain as the Mayor's race is suddenly very crowded, which favors the incumbent, and Benavides is a much weaker opponent than Tinajero might have been.
You are right in that this group has pretty much worked in lockstep with Pulido. It will be interesting to see how they differentiate themselves now.
It is never a good thing for one side to have too much control of any legislative body, IMHO. This group, with the exception of Benavides and Reyna, is pretty liberal. That means possible higher taxes in the future and future concessions to organized labor.
There are other options out there for the voters to consider. But most will definitely be out-gunned in this election.
