Orange County Philanthropists to be honored on Nov. 21, in Irvine

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Orange County Philanthropists will be Honored at the 28th Annual National Philanthropy Day Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, CA– Submissions are now being accepted by the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals for businesses, corporations, schools, nonprofit organizations and individuals for the 2013 National Philanthropy Day Orange County Awards Luncheon, the premier awards ceremony in Orange County honoring businesses, groups and individuals for their outstanding philanthropy in the community.

Submissions must be completed online at http://www.npdoc.org/submission-form. Deadline for submissions is Friday, May 24, 2013.

National Philanthropy Day Orange County has become the most prominent philanthropic recognition event in Orange County, with over 1000 honorees since its inception in 1986 including honors in past years for OC philanthropists Donald Bren, Doug Freeman, Marion Knott, Henry and Susan Samueli, Henry Segerstrom, and Bruno Serato.

National Philanthropy Day Orange County award categories include:

· Outstanding Lifetime Achievement

· Outstanding Founder

· Outstanding Philanthropic Group

· Outstanding Philanthropist

· Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser

· Outstanding Youth or Youth Group (under 21 years of age)

· Outstanding Large Corporation or Business (more than 500 employees)

· Outstanding Mid-Size Corporation or Business (51 to 499 employees)

· Outstanding Small Corporation or Business (fewer than 50 employees)

All nominees will be recognized and will receive a recognition letter from National Philanthropy Day founder and Orange County resident Doug Freeman. One outstanding honoree in each category will be chosen and will receive an award on stage to represent his or her peers at the luncheon. The nine outstanding honorees are named in late July.

The 2013 National Philanthropy Day Orange County Awards Luncheon, with the theme “Giving is always in season in the OC,” will be held Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at a new location, the Hyatt Regency Irvine located at 17900 Jamboree Road in Irvine, CA.

Joann Leatherby, the 2012 Lifetime Achievement outstanding honoree, will be the Honorary Chair for this year’s 28th annual event.

ABOUT NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY: National Philanthropy Day Orange County honors those who have demonstrated philanthropy and enhanced their communities and the world. Each year more than 100 Association of Fundraising Professionals chapters throughout the US and Canada honor the philanthropic efforts of individuals, businesses, and groups. Net proceeds of the event support the ethical advancement of philanthropy in the community by the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

National Philanthropy Day Orange County is sponsored by the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is presented by the Orange County Register. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Orange County Register’s event sponsorship.
