Man arrested for the fatal shooting of a teenager at a park in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (November 12, 2024) – Anaheim homicide detectives have arrested Samuel Galeno, a 19-year-old Anaheim man, in connection with the killing of a 16-year-old boy who was shot to death in a local park, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

On November 10, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Anaheim police officers were dispatched to a local hospital after the boy was brought there for treatment of at least one gunshot wound. The boy was transferred to a trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The initial investigation revealed the boy had been in John Marshall Park, located in the 2000 block of West La Palma Avenue in Anaheim, around 8 p.m. when he was confronted by a group of suspects. One of the suspects produced a handgun and shot the boy at least one time.

Detectives identified Galeno as a suspect. On November 11, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., investigators and personnel from APD’s Tactical Response Group located Galeno during a search warrant service at a residence in the 1800 block of W. Tamara Lane.

Galeno was taken into custody without incident and has been booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility for murder. Galeno is being held in lieu of $1 million.

The investigation is ongoing, and detectives have declined to discuss the motive for the killing.
