Senate Veterans Affairs Committee to Continue Inquiry into State Military Department

SACRAMENTO, CA – State Senator Lou Correa (Orange County) has announced a follow-up hearing to the State Senate’s November 4, 2010 hearing into irregularities within the California Military Department. The hearing will be held at 1:30 pm on March 22, 2011 in the Rose Ann Vuich Hearing Room (Rm. 2040) of the State Senate.

The Military Department is responsible for training National and Air Guard soldiers and airmen and responds to state emergencies and natural disasters. Over the past six months various accusations have been leveled against the guard.

The Senate’s first hearing was prompted by accusations of misappropriation of retention and recruitment bonuses. In the wake of those hearings more information has come forward.

Senator Correa stated, “I have been in close contact with the Military Department and believe that the public has a legitimate expectation that this committee do its job. Any and all relevant information needs to be made public. Our men and women in uniform, and taxpayers, need to be apprised of all facts surrounding these issues.”

State Senator Lou Correa represents the 34th District, which includes: Anaheim, Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Westminster, Stanton, Buena Park, and Fullerton.
