Legal Thriller Inherit the Wind: A Riveting Courtroom Drama

The legal thriller Inherit the Wind, one of the great American dramas of the 20th century, is now being presented at the Attic Community Theater, located at 2995 W Segerstrom, in Santa Ana, through Nov. 3, 2013. Inherit the Wind is as rousing and relevant today as it was in 1955.

In this play a pair of legal giants go head-to-head in this gripping courtroom drama inspired by the historic Scopes “monkey trial.” A masterpiece of American theater, Inherit the Wind focuses on a small-town school science teacher who’s put on trial for teaching evolution, and the subsequent courtroom clash between friends and rival attorneys Drummond and Brady, standing in for the real trial’s William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow.

The play first hit the stage in 1955, but the passionately argued issues of science vs. faith are still amazingly timely. Inherit the Wind has been adapted into several films, including the acclaimed 1960 version directed by Stanley Kramer and starring Spencer Tracy, Fredric March and Gene Kelly.

This play is loosely based on the real-life Scopes Monkey Trial, being presented at the Attic Community Theater, located at 2995 W Segerstrom, in Santa Ana, through Nov. 3, 2013.
