Subject: Irvine Police Seek Suspect of Child Annoyance and Indecent Exposure

Contact : Julia Engen, Lieutenant 949-724-7112, jengen@cityofirvine.org

IRVINE, CA (February 13, 2014) Wednesday night, the Irvine Police Department received information that two 15-year-old girls were approached while walking home from school earlier in the day near West Yale Loop and Warner Avenue. The girls separated at approximately 3:20 p.m. as the first victim walked into her residential area. The suspect pulled up to the curb in a dark sedan and motioned for her to approach the car through his closed passenger window. The girl did not approach and continued into her home.

Moments later, the same suspect drove up to the second girl who had entered a different residential area near West Yale Loop and Stone Creek North. The suspect drove up to the girl as she was crossing a street and motioned for her to look through his passenger window with one hand while he exposed himself to her with his other hand.

The suspect is described as male, with light skin, 20-30 years old with short dark brown hair. The vehicle is a dark 4-door sedan with tinted windows.

Detectives believe this suspect may be related to two previous incidents on January 17, at 5:45 p.m. and February 4, at 4:50 p.m., when a similarly described suspect approached young girls on foot and asked for directions. In those two cases, the suspect’s pants were unzipped leaving him exposed to the girls he approached.

Each of the three incidents occurred in the Woodbridge area of Irvine, inside and outside of West Yale Loop between Barranca Parkway and Yale Avenue (North).

The above composite sketch is from the incident on January 17.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Irvine Police Department at 949-724-7200.

The Irvine Police Department would like to remind parents to frequently discuss safety with their children, especially regarding approaching strangers or strange vehicles. Children should never approach occupied cars and should dial 911 or call out for help if approached.
