An Overture in Parts
November 3 – December 31, 2012
www.flahertystudio.com | see press
Through a three act video installation, appropriating the soundtrack of the Broadway musical Les Miserables (based upon the 1862 French novel by author Victor Hugo), artist Sean C. Flaherty explores complex family and relationship dynamics. The installation includes the video works: Act I The Confrontation: Script as Set; Act II One Day More: A Family in Parts; Act III A Heart Full of Love: Familiar Parts. Flaherty’s work allows the personal to become universal, providing seemingly intimate and private shared matters to be opened to critique.
The closing reception will take place during the Artists Village Art Walk in Downtown Santa Ana on Saturday, December 1st, from 7:00pm until 10:00pm.

This sounds like a good time. Can you help set the record straight about something Mr. Pedroza regarding the Artists Village in Santa Ana? Whose idea was it and who should get the credit for its creation? Was it:
Tom Lutz?
Jim Giliam?
Roger Kooi?
Donald Crib?
Gil Morrero?
I've heard all of these names credited with creating the Village and I'd like to know who is responsible?
Dave Ream and Cindy Nelson came up with the redevelopment money but there were quite a few folks involved who helped lure CSUF to the Downtown. Roger was definitely a major player and Gil was very actively involved in the real estate deals. Mike Harrah was a major force in acquiring and fixing up some of the buildings that are now part of the Artists Village.
Miguel Pulido and Tom Lutz worked with the Council to make all of this happen. Ted Moreno was the main opponent to the Artists Village but he ended up in jail after he was set up by a police informant.
Don Crib has tried to take credit for all of this but from what I have been told he was and is a busybody with a loud mouth who caused more trouble than he was worth.
Thanks for the tip Art. I picked up the cutest little ceramic Surfing Monkey to go with my collection.

Here I've been driving to T.J. all these years and I could have been buying my collectables in the Artist Village!
Also, I think Mr. Crib was at one time David Hockneys "Partner" and therefore is credited with being an artist but I think he's really more of a "supporter' of the arts/artists. Don came on board late in the game in Santa Ana but was responsible for the hiring of Jim Giliam so I guess he did help in that way.
This is a painting Hockney did of Don called "Fashion Island". One can only imagine what they were shopping for!
