Councilwoman Martinez uses city funds to promote what looks like a campaign event

Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez used the City of Santa Ana’s public relations department to send out a notice today about her “Annual Community Address” on August 27, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Ana Senior Center.

Martinez is up for re-election in November and she should not be using public resources to promote herself.  This is quite obviously a campaign event for her.  She ought to be paying for the event promotion herself!

Martinez claims she will use this event to talk about new projects in Santa Ana but you can rest assured it will be nothing more than a chance for Martinez to promote herself on our dime.

The Santa Ana Senior Center is located at 424 West 3rd Street in Santa Ana.  Validated Parking will be available at the parking structure located at 3rd and Birch.

Martinez is even using city staff to collect her RSVPs!  To reserve your spot, please RSVP to Ana Huizar at ahuizar@santa-ana.org or call (714) 647-6900.

Refreshments will be available compliments of Councilwoman Martinez – but what that really means is we the taxpayers are paying for the refreshments!

The future plans Martinez will be talking about won’t matter much to her if she loses in November to Mirna Velasquez.

  • Ha Ha ! Nice link to Mirna's website there.
Hey speaking of sneaky campaigning on the job, why did Pulido invite, award all of his Floral Park Patrons in the name of "the artists village" to last council meeting?

    • Oh you know Pulido. He has been in involved in the Artists Village from the start and now is a good time for him to be nice to the folks who will be writing him campaign checks.

But it is one thing to give out certificates at the City Council meeting and quite another for Martinez to throw a campaign event at our expense...

  • Campaign checks I doubt it 'how can be a great mayor when he's being investigated by state of California dude what will take for you editor to understand that his scandal won't be repeated again and maybe this time destroy the city....people of Santa Ana want a need a new mayor....and by far I'm not throwing a lie here, your a great guy editor wish you were running for mayor....

    • Thanks but my days as a candidate are over. Just running my blogs is a lot of work. It is too bad Corea dropped out!

    • The "scandal" you talk about is blowing over as I type.

It will be akin to an infraction. Seeing how his vote didn't influence things ONE BIT. He can only be accused of not recusing himself according to state law. Not influence peddling as Adam E. would have you believe.

As far as a destroyed city Cc, I would look no further than Casa Bonita, the violence plagued, drug infested, den of poorly educated immigrants that councilmember Benavides and Renya call "home".

Those are BAD leaders and bad role models.
