Correa to host a Stop Senior Scams Workshop in Santa Ana on 9/27

State Senator Lou Correa is hosting a Senior Scam Stopper Seminar on Friday, September 27, 2013, from  9a.m. – 12 p.m., at the Santa Ana Senior Center located at 424 W. 3rd St., in Santa Ana.

The Senior Lecture Series are presentations developed to assist adults (55+). Each presentation will provide participants with useful information and modern solutions to enrich daily living.

Attendees will learn how to become more empowered as they listen to subject matter experts provide tips on how they can  protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud.  During the two hour seminar, a panel of experts will speak about various types of fraud and answer questions from attendees. The panelists will also have educational material to distribute and be able to talk with attendees one on one after the seminar.

Event description:

Anyone can be a victim of financial abuse but numerous scams are being committed against seniors because they are the easiest targets for scammers to defraud. Scams such as identity theft, financial exploitation, home repair/contractor scams, and mortgage and real estate fraud are running rampant in our senior communities. There are lots of scam artists out there, and lots of people too willing to trust them. Seniors are most often the target of these scams.

The older generation is thought to be more trusting – raised to believe that a man’s word is his bond. And many have built up a nice nest egg from years of saving and investing and may own their home outright. But by knowing what to look out for, and what not to fall for, you can keep your money, home and your belongings safe.
