Correa announces 10th Annual California Contemporary Collection Competition

SENATOR CORREA ANNOUNCES TENTH ANNUAL CALIFORNIA CONTEMPORARY ART COLLECTION COMPETITION

Santa Ana, CA- Senator Lou is accepting entries from artists residing in the 34th Senate District who artwork interested in having their original art displayed at the upcoming California Contemporary Art Collection for the 2013-2014 Art Exhibit at the State Capitol. In 1997, the California State Senate’s Contemporary Art Collection program was initiated to recognize and celebrate contemporary art created by the wide variety of artists throughout the state. Every two years, members of the Legislature are therefore asked to select an artist who they feel best their district.

“It is always an honor to share and showcase the great talents from Orange County,” said Senator Correa. “I am especially proud of the rich diversity of our district and encourage all local artists to take part in this year’s competition.”

To participate in the selection process for the California Contemporary Art Collection for the 2013-2014 Art Exhibit, the following requirements must be met: (1) Artwork submitted for selection must be produced by an artist residing in the 34th District. (2) Most types of original artwork is allowed (oil painting, weaving, photography, sculpture, etc.), but posters and prints will NOT be accepted. (3) The overall size of the original artwork should not be larger than 3′ x 5′. (4) The exhibit schedule is planned from May 2013 – September 2014; thus, the artist whose work is selected must agree to loan it to the exhibit for approximately 18 months.

Please mail photos of your artwork along with a few written paragraphs about the artist and each piece of work by March 15, 2013 to 2323 North Broadway Suite 245 Santa Ana, CA 92706 to the attention of Karen Tran or via e-mail to Karen.Tran@sen.ca.gov.
