Back to School Safety Tips
School Begins September 2, 2014 in Santa Ana
The Santa Ana School Police Department would like to remind everyone that as summer draws to a close, back-to-school season is in full effect. It is important for parents to stay up-to-date on the proper safety precautions and share this information with their children to keep them safe throughout the school year.
Safety should be a priority for every family as 56,000 Santa Ana Unified School District students return to classrooms this fall. Whether children walk, ride their bicycle or take the bus to school, it is extremely important that they take proper safety precautions. Here are some tips to make sure your child safely travels to school.
PARENTS
· Make sure you update emergency contact information at school
· Remind your child not to speak with strangers to and from school
· Follow the rules of the road if driving your child to school
STUDENTS
Walking to school
· Walk with an adult or with a group of friends to school
· Walk on the sidewalk, if one is available. When on a street with no sidewalk, walk facing the traffic
· Before you cross the street, stop and look left, right and left again to see if cars are coming
· Never dart out in front of a parked car
Riding a bicycle to school
· Make sure your child always wears his/her helmet when riding a bicycle
· Ride on the right side of the road, with traffic, and in a single file
· Come to a complete stop before crossing the street. Walk bike across street.
We want our students to have a safe and successful school year.
