On Friday night, police officers spotted a U-Haul truck breaking the rules of the road and attempted to pull it over. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the driver continued to commit several other CVC violations, such as running red lights, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
With the assistance of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter (Duke) and HB1, officers switched to tracking mode, keeping an eye on things from above. The driver drove to a dead-end street in La Palma, where the driver and passenger fled on foot and attempted to hide in a large, fenced-in industrial area.
In collaboration with surrounding agencies, a perimeter was set up, guided by HB1, to pinpoint the suspects’ location. The suspects were successfully located and taken into custody. Inside the truck, officers found narcotics.
The driver, a parolee at large, faces various charges, including felony evading, resisting or obstructing a police officer, reckless driving, and possession of narcotics. The passenger was also arrested for resisting or obstructing a police officer.
This shows that even when police officers discontinue a pursuit from the ground, they still have eyes in the sky to help! Criminals – think twice before causing trouble in Huntington Beach.
