ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 15, 2021) – The Anaheim Police Department Homicide Detail has arrested 57-year-old Alvaro Mendoza Sahagun, an Anaheim resident, for the fatal stabbing of 36-year-old Marcos Zavala, also of Anaheim, at a homeless shelter.
On March 14, 2021, around 6 a.m., Anaheim police officers responded to the Salvation Army in the 1400 block of S. Salvation Place and located Zavala suffering from at least one stab wound. He died at a nearby hospital.
Officers contacted Sahagun at the scene and detectives subsequently arrested him.
Sahagun was booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility for murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million.
Detectives are not discussing a motive for the murder.
