A child was shot while in a vehicle in Santa Ana this evening

The SAPD did not explain why they shut down part of N. Main St.but Fox News has reported that a child was shot while inside a vehicle.

The shooting happened Sunday just before 9 p.m.

The shooting was reported in a residential area by 15th and Spurgeon streets.

The child, a two-year-old toddler, was sitting in a car seat in the back seat of a white Nissan Altima.

The vehicle had bullet holes in the back and left side of the vehicle, according to ABC News.

The police investigators do not yet know if it was a car-to-car shooting.

The child was taken by her parents to Children’s Hospital of Orange County, about two miles away, when they realized that she had been shot.

The victim was initially listed in critical condition but her condition has since stabilized.

SAPD police investigators do not believe the parents did not do anything that led up to the shooting. The investigators also believe that they don’t think the vehicle was targeted intentionally or that the shooting was a road rage incident.

The SAPD has no suspect description yet. They likely are looking for surveillance videos in the area of the shooting. Detectives were able to recover shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

Those with video or information are asked to contact the SAPD at (714) 245-8049.
