Woman shot by the SAPD this morning, on Townsend Street.

A female suspect is dead after being wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana. The shooting happened shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday in an alley on the 800 block of South Townsend Street, according to ABC News.

It was unknown whether the woman was armed, but police said they found a weapon in the alley that was not a police weapon. Witnesses said the woman did not live in the apartment complex and was seen sitting in a garage before the shooting, according to NBC News.

Many residents in the area said they were sleeping when the shooting occurred and believed the gunshots were fireworks. “We didn’t see anything. We were sleeping,” Maria Ponce said in Spanish as she stood on the balcony of her second-story apartment, according to the O.C. Register.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete, officials said, according to NBC News.

  • This is a couple of doors down from Councilmember Benavides house. Terrible place to live.
    SA dining!

    • You mean the house that the Editor of this blog predicted would be vacated by Benavides after a shooting nearby about 5 years ago? LOL

        • Oh really? And does that have anything to do with the shooting 5 years ago?

          Only in your twisted soul.

Tell us, is Mr. Benavides still living in the house?

          • Anon.

If he did You wouldn't know it because Councilmember Benavides spends much of his time dining, drinking and partying in places like DTSA, according to his Facebook page.

Instead of dedicating himself to the crime ridden neighborhood which surounds the house his (soon to be) Ex-Wife bought him, he prefers to drink and party with (presumably) single young women at bars.

THREE MAJOR CRIMES within a hundred yards of where his children supposedly sleep in 36 hours and he says NOTHING.
Maybe that's because his kids don't live there (although google Earth has an interesting take).

FACE IT: P. David Benavides cares about as much about the safety and well being of this neighborhood as he does about his wife and kids. In other word's: "How is this my problem"?

It would be great to find out Emily Benavie's address and ask her thoughts about raising children in a gang infested, bullet ridden, drug Den that is Casa Bonita.

I heard the SAPD doesn't even respond to car thefts there as it is a "property crime" and there is too much violent activity to waste on auto-theft.

        • Benavides "spokesman", Art Lomeli, just pretty much confimed this at the Voice of OC.

I suspect, he and the other Non-Residnt cheerleaders will say this has nothing to do with his duties. But, he ran on a Christian Family activist platform, championing fatherless children. Plus, his wife financed his HOME!

          This will be interesting.
