Santa Ana is a city dominated by Democrats. Our city Council is entirely comprised of Democrats. Our State Assemblyman, our State Senator and our U.S. Representative are all Democrats. Yet the Democrats in Sacramento, led by Governor Jerry Brown, are trying to force the City of Santa Ana to fork over millions of dollars in redevelopment dollars that are already committed to affordable housing projects for the needy.
Mayor Miguel Pulido and our City Council say they are going to lobby Brown and his peers but they alone cannot stop this from happening. Only we can save our city!
Click here to email Gov. Brown. Here is the message I sent him (under the category of Taxes as his administration is threatening to withhold property tax money from our city):
Dear Gov. Brown,
Please do not force the City of Santa Ana to pay back $56 million dollars in redevelopment money that has already been allocated to affordable housing projects for the needy.
Our city is already broke. If your administration forces this issue our city will go bankrupt.
Our city is populated mostly by Democrats of low to middle income. For you to do this to our people is just awful especially with Christmas around the corner.
I voted for you and I hope you won’t make me regret that vote.
Sincerely,
Art Pedroza
Don’t stop with Brown! Click here to place a comment on Assembly Speaker John A. Perez’ Facebook page (you cannot email him through his website as he only accepts emails from those who live in his district). And click here to send a Facebook message to State Senate Speaker Darrell Steinberg. You may also click here to comment on Gov. Brown’s Facebook page.
I told both Perez and Steinberg that I will encourage all Democrats in Santa Ana to dump their party and register as Decline to State or third party voters if the state goes through with bankrupting our city. If they do this we will have a chance in two years to dump many of our elected Democratic legislative leaders – including Assemblyman Tom Daly who has as of yet said nothing about this situation.
Don’t take this lying down Santa Ana! This is our city and we can’t just sit here and let our politicians fight this battle alone. Gov. Brown promised to support our working families. Time for him to prove that! It is time to fight back Santa Ana!

Art, this is set aside money for low income housing.
It HAS NOT been spent on the low income housing.
Where is the money? If not in the bank, what was it spent on? And by who’s authority?
Seems to me there is something fishy going on.
The articles in the Voice of OC and the OC Register clearly explain where the money is being spent. The projects are all laudable. I see nothing fishy.
According to the state the city is spending money it has no right to, and the reasons the city gave did not add up.
How much is the city going to pay some lawyers to lose this case?
I got to the meeting late and it was over so I did not hear what the reasoning was for the cities postion.
So I can only hope our side (the city) wins and the cops will vote substandial pension and benefit reductions to pay for all of the lawyer costs.
Read the articles I referenced.
Sorry, I omitted, Shea filed bankruptcy, the List was biggest recent development fails.
So much for Pulido's tight connections with Gov. Brown
Those connections may be our only hope. No one else on the Council has such pull in Sacramento. Certainly not Benavides.
Seems I saw one of CNNs recent Top 10 Lists online for housing property developments included Shea Homes. Weren't they the OC builders whose tactic was subcontracting all work to cheap manual labor and thereby avoid their numerous lawsuits? Shea had that reputation in many cities. Just wondering if that figures in here.
