Sunday night, a police officer recognized a man possibly associated with previous bike thefts walking in the area of Alton and Jeffrey, according to the Irvine Police Department.
The police officer quickly determined the man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. When the officer tried to talk to him, the suspect took off running.
After a short zig-zag sprint across Alton, Gerardo Ruben Avila, 34, of Tustin, was taken into custody.
Avila was booked at Orange County Jail for his warrant, resisting arrest, and possessing a meth pipe.
Perhaps smoking meth makes you a poor runner…
We previously reported a year ago that Avila had been arrested for stealing a bike at Woodbridge High School that turned out to belong to the Irvine Police Department.
Some meth heads never learn.
