Volleyball coach in Costa Mesa arrested for lewd conduct with a minor

OC Child Exploitation Task Force Arrests Coach for Engaging in Lewd Behavior

Investigators Seek Additional Victims

COSTA MESA, CA (April 13, 2016) – On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, investigators from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Detail (SVD) and the Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force (OCCETF) arrested Troy Linehan Crutchfield, 26, Costa Mesa, on charges related to sending harmful matter to a minor electronically and communicating with a minor to engage in lewd behavior. Crutchfield is suspected of taking and sending lewd videos of himself to a minor. Crutchfield was arrested following an investigation that started in March 2016.

At the beginning of March, 2016, an investigator with the OCSD Special Victims Detail assigned to the Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force was contacted regarding a female minor victim who was having inappropriate conversations with a male online. An investigation was initiated. During the course of the investigation, Troy Crutchfield was identified as a possible suspect.

On April 13, 2016, investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Detail and the Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force served a search warrant at Crutchfield’s residence in the City of Costa Mesa. Crutchfield, who was home at the time, was arrested and transported to the Orange County Jail.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims. Crutchfield has been employed or volunteered as a volleyball coach at the following locations: California State University, Long Beach, SCA Club Volleyball in Huntington Beach, Huntington Beach High School, and Long Beach City College. Crutchfield is currently providing private volleyball lessons and has in past years. Any questions related to Crutchfield’s employment or volunteer record should be addressed with the appropriate work location.

Crutchfield was booked into the Orange County Jail and his current bail is set at $100,000

The Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force (OCCETF) is a multi-agency team which includes U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Newport Beach Police Department, Huntington Beach Police Department and U.S. Postal Inspection Service, assigned to investigate Internet-related crimes against children as well as crimes involving the possession, production and distribution of child pornography.
