Veterans Mental Health Conference in Garden Grove on March 28-29

Veterans’ Conference for Mental Health Providers
March 28-29, 2011
Crowne Plaza Hotel
Garden Grove, CA

This 2-day conference is planned to accommodate training on veterans’ behavioral health issues for 350 community mental health providers, BHS Veterans’ program collaborative partners (VA, Vet centers, SSA, etc.), BHS staff, local military personnel, community members, veterans and their families. The program is funded through Mental Health Services Act (Prop.63) Prevention and Intervention.

The event will ‘kick-off’ with an overview of the national perspective on the current conflicts: behavioral health issues (i.e., Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome {PTSD}), which will be presented by the Department of Defense (DOD) Center of Excellence’s Director of Outreach and Advocacy, Dr. Lolita O’Donnell. She will be followed by a SAMSHA Military Family representative. At this point, the conference will transition to the local (Orange County) Veterans’ perspective with BG (Ret.) Combs as keynote speaker during lunch on March 28. The remainder of the conference will present various military issues, treatments and available resources.

Highlighting the two days will be an Evening Reception on Monday, March 28 featuring clips from “Brothers At War” with commentary by Producer Jake Raken. This event will also feature a panel of Orange County veterans.
