Jason Humberto Rodas, a 32-year-old Uber driver, admitted on Tuesday to sexually assaulting a woman in Santa Ana and was immediately sentenced to more than nine years in prison.
Rodas pleaded guilty to charges including assault with intent to commit a sexual offense, attempted forcible rape, assault and making criminal threats. However a kidnapping charge was dismissed.
Rodas picked up a 51-year-old woman in September of 2020 to drive her to her work. Things changed however when they reached the midpoint of the trip when Rodas told the woman he would not charge her for the ride and then started asking her questions about her sex life, according to the SAPD.
Rodas drove erratically and threatened to throw the woman out of his car if she called for help.
The woman finally got out of the car near the 300 block of South Minnie Street, but Rodas then allegedly caught up with her and proceeded to choke and assault her.
Rodas was sentenced to nine years and eight months behind bars.
