REP. LORETTA SANCHEZ STANDS UP FOR FAMILIES’ AND WOMEN’S HEALTH

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) stood up for the health and well-being of American families and women during debate on H.R. 3762 on the House floor. Congresswoman Sanchez criticized the Senate-passed Reconciliation bill which strips health coverage from millions of Americans and attacks women’s health care by defunding Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood provides crucial health services for underserved low-income and minority families.

“After coming back from the holidays, a time for family and reflection, we begin this New Year with a vote to cripple the well-being of families and attack the rights of women,” said Congresswoman Sanchez.

“Not only has the Affordable Care Act been affirmed constitutional by the Supreme Court and survived countless attempts at dismantlement by both chambers, but thanks to the ACA the folks in my District have seen massive improvements within our communities,” Congresswoman Sanchez said.

From 2012 to 2014, more than 60,000 people in the Congresswoman’s district gained health insurance under ACA policies. The CBO estimates that today’s bill will result in 22 million Americans losing their health coverage after 2017.

“Instead of focusing on issues which directly affect our communities: comprehensive immigration reform, and creating jobs, we are right back to square one with partisan attacks,” said Congresswoman Sanchez.

The House will vote on H.R. 3762 today. This is the 62nd House vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, and is the 11th House vote during the 114th Congress attacking women’s healthcare. President Obama has promised to veto this legislation.

“Let’s cut the partisan politics and start voting on meaningful legislation for American families.”
