Two suspects arrested for the armed robbery of a U.S. mail carrier in Fountain Valley

On July 24, 2023, Fountain Valley police officers responded to the area of Bushard and Toucan regarding a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival the officers that a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier had been robbed at gunpoint. The suspects fled from the scene in a vehicle and got away.

On August 5, 2023, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Fountain Valley police officers observed a suspicious vehicle near a mail collection box in the area of Magnolia and Talbert. The officers detained two suspects in the vehicle. The driver was identified as Jonathan Prieto, an 18-year-old resident of Los Angeles. The passenger was identified as a 16-year-old resident of Huntington Beach.

The officers located an imitation “Glock” style handgun, stolen mail and other property belonging to the robbery victim.

Prieto was arrested and he was booked into the Orange County Jail. The OCDA filed charges against Prieto including robbery, conspiracy, petty theft and theft of U.S. mail. The 16-year-old was booked into the Orange County Juvenile Hall on the same charges as well as possession of stolen property.
