Two Santa Ana pedestrians were struck by a hit and run driver and one died

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, at approximately 2:07 A.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a pedestrian down in traffic lanes at 500 West St. Gertrude Place.

Officers from the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the scene, where they located the two pedestrians in the roadway. Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the scene. Both pedestrians were transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment. Unfortunately, the medical staff declared one of the pedestrians deceased.

The preliminary investigation has revealed the pedestrians were standing next to a vehicle in the street at 500 West St. Gertrude Place. The pedestrians were struck by a vehicle traveling west on St. Gertrude Place. The vehicle involved in this collision fled from the scene before the officers arrived. It remains outstanding, and it, along with the driver, remains unidentified. The vehicle was only described as an SUV. Additionally, it is unknown if alcohol is a factor in this collision. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
