The O.C. Health Care Agency has released a list of the eateries (including restaurants, caterers and even school kitchens) that they inspected and shut down for the week of Aug. 6 to Aug. 14. Most of these eateries reopen pretty quickly after the health inspectors determine their issues have been resolved.

  • Update: El Sahuayo Mexican Food at 1717 S. Main St., Santa Ana, which was ordered closed Aug. 4 because of a rodent infestation, was allowed to reopen Aug. 7.
  • Ruby’s Diner, 13102 Newport Ave., Tustin, Closed: Aug. 10, Reason: Insufficient hot water, Reopened: Aug. 10 (Editor’s note – no hot water is a big deal as you need hot water to properly wash your hands!)
  • Shuck Oyster Bar, 3313 Hyland Ave., Suite A-1, Costa Mesa, Closed: Aug. 12, Reason: Rodent infestation, Reopened: Aug. 13
  • CVS Pharmacy, 6775 Quail Hill Parkway, Irvine, Closed: Aug. 10, Reason: Rodent infestation
  • Rockview Dairy Products, 2350 W. Whittier Blvd., La Habra, Closed: Aug. 11, Reason: Rodent infestation
  • Update: Trejo’s Mexican Food at 17436 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach, which was ordered closed Aug. 5 because of a cockroach infestation, was allowed to reopen Aug. 6.

Incidentally the County of Orange Health Care Agency is refusing to make public the list of local restaurants that have had employees come down with COVID-10. LA, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside county health departments publish such lists, but Orange County Health Care Agency does not, according to the O.C. Register.

In Los Angeles County, the Board of Supervisors passed a motion Tuesday directing the public health department to enact a policy to impose fines or revoke permits at restaurants that are not in compliance with COVID-19 health orders. Orange County has not implemented such a rule, according to the L.A. Times.

I encourage you to sign this online petition urging the Orange County Supervisors to compel the O.C. Health Care Agency to make public the list of restaurants that have had employees come down with COVID-10.

A grassroots page has started to promote transparency for establishments  named COVID California. This page is to promote transparency for companies that have been infected with Covid-19. All information that is posted has been sent by employees, companies, and community members.

In related news the O.C. Register is now publishing a list of local restaurants noting if they are conforming with COVID-19 regulations.
