Thieves who stole Lululemon apparel and Versace sunglasses arrested in Costa Mesa

Last month, a theft occurred at a Sunglass Hut involving two suspects committing a grab-and-run style theft of Versace sunglasses, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

One suspect ran to a waiting vehicle in the parking lot of the shopping center. The vehicle fled the location but was stopped by an officer and the two occupants were detained, one had tried to run from the car. The other suspect was detained at the shopping center.

All three suspects were subsequently tied to the vehicle, which contained clothing that appeared to be stolen, including Lululemon brand clothing.

The total value of the Lululemon clothing was determined to be $4,900, with approximately $1,800 worth of the merchandise having been stolen from the Costa Mesa Lululemon. All three suspects were arrested for varying charges.

Through further investigation, it was discovered that the suspects had in their possession a burglary tool called a “booster bag,” a type of bag that has been modified to prevent the transmission of security device frequencies in an effort to defeat security sensor towers at points of entry/exit at retail stores.

The suspect’s mode of operation, method of merchandise selection and possession of burglary tools (the booster bag) were consistent with organized retail theft behavior. Great arrest by the Costa Mesa Police Department’s Plaza Detail Team!
