On Saturday, February 6th, 2021 at 5:13 A.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received several calls of a traffic collision involving a vehicle on fire at the intersection of 3rd Street and Main Street. Officers responded to the area and located the collision. Orange County Fire Authority personnel responded and began to treat the occupants of both vehicles. One occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene by Orange County Fire Authority. The remaining occupants were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The preliminary investigation has revealed a Chevy was travelling south on Main Street at 3rd Street. A Kia was traveling east on 3rd Street at Main Street. As the Kia proceeded into the intersection, it was struck by the Chevy.
The driver of the Chevy identified as James Martin Diaz from Corona was arrested at the hospital for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He remains in custody at an area hospital.
