Theatre Out to open new venue with the Broadway classic “Falsettos”

THEATRE OUT TO OPEN NEW VENUE WITH THE BROADWAY CLASSIC “Falsettos”

Santa Ana, CA (03/13/2013) – Theatre Out, Orange County’s gay and lesbian theatre company is thrilled to open their new venue with classic Broadway musical FALSETTOS beginning April 13, 2013.

FALSETTOS, with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by James Lapine, is a musical examination of family dynamics and love in the age of Ronald Reagan and ignorance. Marvin has left his wife and child for his lover, Whizzer. Marvin’s wife, Trina, has started dating his psychiatrist and struggles daily with the idea of her ex-husband and his lover being part of her extended family. As their son, Jason, begins to prepare for his Bar Mitzvah, the strength of the family is tested at each turn and they soon realize that love defines a family. FALSETTOS premiered on Broadway in 1992 combining Finn’s two one-act musicals MARCH OF THE FALSETTOS and FALSETTOLAND into the first full-length musical to tackle the AIDS crisis head-on. FALSETTOS was hailed as “exhilarating and heartbreaking…” by The New York Times and still touches audiences with its surprisingly modern sensibility.

Variety called FALSETTOS “A masterly feat of comic storytelling and…visionary musical theater.”

“FALSETTOS is a touching musical that our audience will fall in love with” commented David C. Carnevale, Theatre Out co-founder and Managing Director. “It is a witty and heartfelt examination of a modern family that transcends beyond merely being an early ‘AIDS play’.”

FALSETTOS will open on April 13 in Theatre Out’s new venue. “We are excited to be opening FALSETTOS in the new Theatre Out,” commented Theatre Out co-founder and producer, Joey Baital. “Our new venue is a gem and allows us to continue to create great theatre in the Artist Village. Our regular patrons will be impressed with the new look and feel of the venue as well as the new layout and seating arrangement.” Theatre Out’s new venue is located at 402 W. 4th Street in Santa Ana’s Artist Village on the corner of W. 4th and Birch. The new venue offers many new ammenities including easy access to adjacent restaurants as well as reserved seating.

Under the direction of Jason Holland and musical director Stephen Hulsey, FALSETTOS features James Freitas, Stephen Hulsey, Marc Montminy, Elizabeth Bouton, Jenny Moon Shaw, Dalisa Krauss with DJ Price and Blake Kerzie alternating in the role of Jason.

Tickets for FALSETTOS range from $20-$25 General admission and $20 for students with valid student ID and can be purchased exclusively at www.theatreout.com or at the Box Office on the night of the performance based on availability.
