The SAUSD has reached a tentative agreement with their teachers’ union

The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) has apparently negotiated a “signed tentative agreement” with their teachers’ union, the Santa Ana Educators Association (SAEA), according to an email sent by SAEA President Susan Mercer to her members.  The deal is pending ratification by the SAUSD School Board and the SAEA’s members.

The SAEA has been endorsing the SAUSD Trustee incumbents for years.  So this new deal really was a forgone conclusion however it should be noted that the new deal does NOT include any furlough days or pay cuts.

Here is Mercer’s email to her members about the tentative agreement with the SAUSD:

We did it!!!

Today, the bargaining session concluded with a signed tentative agreement (TA) that does NOT include furlough days or pay cuts.

So what’s next? The SAEA Board of Directors will meet, March 5th, to vote on the TA. Next, March 19th, SAEA Rep Council will review the TA and vote whether or not to send it to the membership for ratification.

If the TA is approved by both the SAEA Board and SAEA Rep Council, it will then go to the SAEA membership (you) for ratification end of March or April. Before the vote, SAEA will hold several informational meetings to review and explain the contents of the TA.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the bargaining team, Ron Shepherd, Billy West, Peter Boyd, Barbara Pearson, Sonta Garner-Marcelo and Stephanie Stotelmeyer, for their hard work, dedication to the Santa Ana educators and a job well done.

Thanks for your support the past couple weeks!

Have a wonderful and restful long weekend!

Susan Mercer
SAEA President

  • I heard that Susan Mercer doesn't support temporary contracted employees!!! In addition, she only cares about the teachers and doesn't really support the counselors of SAUSD. Susan needs to be recalled. Susan is too much buddy-buddy with Admin.!
