While most of us were celebrating Christmas Day on Monday, SAPD police officers had to shoot at a suspect who they had stopped for a vehicle violation at about 1:43 p.m., at 11521 Salinaz Drive, in the area of Newhope St., south of Trask Ave., in Garden Grove, according to the O.C. Register.
No one was injured in the shooting.
The police were able to recover a firearm at the scene, according to the SAPD.
Witnesses saw a Taser on the sidewalk along Salinaz Drive. The Taser appeared to have been shot through the rear passenger window of a gold Chevrolet Silverado. The police do not know why or how it was used.
The shooting incident happened in Garden Grove, just north of Santa Ana, in a small business area. As it was Christmas Day the businesses were closed but the shooting got the attention of area residents. One of them saw a person get loaded into an ambulance and another was handcuffed and arrested.
The shooting and arrest resulted in the temporary closure of Newhope Ave. between Jola Ave. and Woodbury Road, which ended up routing traffic through a residential neighborhood.
The incident is under investigation by both the Santa Ana Police and the Garden Grove Police.
The SAPD has not indicated yet why their police officers made the traffic stop or why they shot at the suspect, nor how many shots were fired. Nor was the media advised as to how many occupants were in the vehicle that was shot at.
