The SAPD seized guns this week from gang members, probationers and at traffic stops

The SAPD is doing their part to try to reduce gun violence in Santa Ana. It is a daunting task as there are so many guns in our city and far too many criminals.

The SAPD just released their latest update regarding gun seizures. Each seizure tells a story – from traffic stops to gang members and even loiterers – the SAPD is going after all criminals who are armed.

SAPD gang detectives contacted two suspects who were loitering at the 1100 block of W. Brook St. One of the suspects was found to be in possession of vehicle keys. The vehicle owner responded and consented to a search of his vehicle.

During the search the detectives located a loaded 9mm “ghost gun.” Both of the suspects were arrested and booked on firearm-related charges with gang enhancements.

SAPD police officers received a call about a shooting at the 2000 block of S. Broadway by a male suspect in a vehicle. Gang detectives located the suspect vehicle and found the suspect nearby, armed with a firearm.

The suspect was a documented gang member and he was positively identified by the victim.

The suspect was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail on charges of attempted murder, robbery and various firearm violations.

SAPD patrol officers conducted a traffic stop at the area of N. 1st Street and E. Lyon Street. As the vehicle yielded the rear occupant discarded a firearm from the vehicle. Unfortunately for the occupant the officers saw this as it happened.

The officers took all the occupants into custody and recovered the firearm. During a vehicle search the officers located a gun magazine, ammo and spent casings.

The occupants of the vehicle were booked at the Santa Ana Jail on various firearm violations.

SAPD gang detectives contacted several subjects loitering in front of a bar. During a search of the immediate area the detectives located a loaded firearm that was hidden near where the suspects were initially observed. A suspect was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail on numerous firearm violations.

Downtown SAPD police officers conducted a traffic stop of a driver for traffic violations. The suspect had visible narcotics inside the vehicle. The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded firearm under the front passenger seat.

Turns out the suspect was a convicted felon. He was arrested for several firearm violations and booked at the Santa Ana Jail.

SAPD police officers were conducting a patrol check and contacted a known gang member. During the contact the officers located a loaded semi-auto pistol in a trash can directly next to where the suspect was standing. The suspect was arrested and then booked at the Santa Ana Jail on a firearms violation.

SAPD MET detectives conducted a pedestrian check and found a suspect in possession of a loaded firearm. A records check revealed that the suspect was a convicted felon and a documented gang member. The suspect was booked at the Santa Ana Jail for various firearm violations.

SAPD gang detectives conducted a probation compliance check of a known gang member. During the search the detectives located a loaded revolver.

The probationer was arrested and then booked at Juvenile Hall on firearm-related charges.

An SAPD Corporal attempted to conduct a traffic stop for various vehicle code violations. The driver failed to yield and a short police pursuit ensued.

Two passengers fled on foot as the driver and another passenger remained in the vehicle.

The driver and the passenger were detained without incident.

A loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was arrested and then booked at the Santa Ana Jail for felony evading and firearm violations.
