The SAPD conducted a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday night. They have released the results:
These Checkpoints are funded by the State of California’s Office of Traffic Safety. Typically the police officers who work at these Checkpoints are hand-picked by the Chief of Police and get quite a bit of overtime pay.
This Checkpoint generated four DUI arrests which is good news. Taking drunks off the street is a major public safety win!
It is hard to say what the 17 citations were for. These are likely Vehicle Code Violations and could include:
Typically police departments will stage motorcycle officers around the Checkpoint. If they see a car try to evade the Checkpoint they will pull them over and do a spot check to see if the driver is under the influence.
One more tip – the police officers can cite you for DUI for drugs as well as alcohol including use of marijuana.
