Santa Ana Police Department

Advisory: SAPD Investigating Fatal Traffic Collision Involving Commercial Burglary/Pursuit

Driver/Arrestee – Ge’onte Ray Charles Sessions (20), Los Angeles

Decedent – Luis Arreguin (19), Los Angeles

On Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at approximately 11:04 pm an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle in the City of Tustin. A short vehicle pursuit ensued, until it was terminated when the suspect vehicle was lost by the Sheriff’s Deputy as it entered the east side of the City of Santa Ana.

At approximately 11:05 pm the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) received several calls from citizens reporting a traffic collision of a vehicle into a tree in the area of 1600 E. Chestnut Avenue.

Officers from the Santa Ana Police Department, in addition to personnel from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the collision scene. OCFA personnel treated the driver, later identified as Ge’onte Sessions, and rear passenger Travon McNeil, briefly at the scene before they were transported to the OC Global Medical Center – Santa Ana. The front passenger, later identified as Luis Arreguin, was pronounced deceased and was later extricated from the vehicle by OCFA using the jaws of life.

While investigating the collision, it was learned that the Tustin Police Department was investigating a commercial burglary at the Red Poppy Boutique located at 640 W. First Street #D, Tustin, CA 92780. Property found within the suspect vehicle was later identified as stolen merchandise from this business. Alcohol or drugs may have played a role in this collision. The driver’s sobriety has yet to be determined.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) is investigating the fatal traffic collision while the Tustin Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigate the commercial burglary and vehicle pursuit. Any witnesses having information about this collision or the other related crimes are asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division at (714) 245-8200.
