On Monday, July 11, 2022, at 3:23 a.m., Officers responded to a shooting that had just occurred within the parking lot of 300 E. 17th Street. (At a 7-11 store a few blocks east of Norm’s).
Upon arrival, a lone male victim was discovered lying in the parking lot with a fatal gunshot wound to his upper torso.
The circumstances surrounding this homicide are currently being investigated.
Detectives are attempting to identify and locate any witnesses who can shed light on this incident.
The victim was identified as Matthew Rule, a 24-year-old man. (See picture above).

Please take this mugshot down of matthew I can provide alt pictures if need be but this is wrong this man was my dear friend and shot during a robbery with no reason or prior knowledge of the shooter at all.

So sorry for your loss. I am sure you must be aware that the SAPD broadly distributed that picture to all media. It is on their Twitter feed. It is not a mug shot. It is just a picture. We hope the killer will be found and prosecuted.

The main picture that was first released was a booking photo, I was speaking to his gf about replacing it with better images....like the one u posted in this article with the green sweatshirt, I emailed you earlier today actually about it!
