The SAPD is hunting for a hit and run driver who killed a pedestrian on Monday night

On October 7, 2024, at approximately 7:21 p.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Fairview Street.

Officers, along with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene and located a man in the roadway with significant injuries; the vehicle involved had fled. Despite life-saving measures, the OCFA pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the pedestrian was crossing Fairview St. westbound when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan traveling southbound on Fairview St. The vehicle immediately fled southbound on Fairview St. towards Segerstrom Ave. after the collision. Multiple witnesses remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the decedent as Mario Alberto Romero (42) of Rowland Heights.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is investigating this incident. Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Detective Corporal Carrillo at (714) 245-8208 or the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division at (714) 245-8200.
