The SAPD arrested a Lyft driver on sexual assault and kidnapping charges

Santa Ana Police detectives arrested 30-year-old Fredi Rojas, a resident of Orange, for kidnapping and sexual assault.

In April of 2023, the 15-year-old female victim was in the area of 1200 North Bewely and needed her cell phone charged. She saw Rojas driving by slowly and flagged him down to ask for a phone charger.

Rojas stopped his vehicle and offered to help. As the victim approached, Rojas forced her into his vehicle and drove her to a nearby parking lot, where he sexually assaulted her in the vehicle. After the assault, Rojas drove the victim to a different location in Santa Ana and dropped her off.

Rojas is a driver for Lyft and he was driving a rental car, a white Nissan Rogue, at the time of the incident. Detectives do not believe the victim was a customer.

Detectives ultimately arrested Rojas and booked him at the Orange County Jail on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault. His bail was set at $1,000,000.00.

Santa Ana Police detectives believe there might be additional victims, given Rojas’s capacity as a Lyft driver. They ask anyone with information to contact Detective Amanda Miller at 714-245-8363, amiller5@santa-ana.org, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
