The SAPD arrested a 19-year-old suspected in a gang-related murder

SANTA ANA, Calif. (June 11, 2024)—Santa Ana Police Detectives have arrested a 19-year-old male suspect for a fatal shooting that occurred on Monday, June 3, 2024.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, at 6:42 p.m., Santa Ana Police Communications received a report of a shooting in the area of 1100 S. Poplar Street.

Officers responded to the scene and located a 19-year-old male, identified as Angel Junior Vuelvas of Santa Ana, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Orange County Fire Authority provided immediate medical attention and transported Vuelvas to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The suspects had fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

UPDATE:

SAPD Homicide Detectives assumed the investigation and identified one of the suspects as 19-year-old Gabriel Gutierrez of Santa Ana. On Friday, June 7, 2024, Gutierrez was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail for Penal Code § 187(a) – Murder. He was arraigned on murder charges on June 11, 2024, in Orange County Superior Court.

The circumstances surrounding this homicide remain under investigation and Detectives are attempting to identify additional suspects. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call SAPD Homicide Section Detectives at (714) 245-8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
