The Santa Ana Main Library will be revitalized with a $9.3M state grant

The City of Santa Ana’s Library Services Agency has been awarded over $9.3 million from the California State Library “Building Forward” grant program to fund a variety of critical maintenance and infrastructure needs at the Main Library.

Which Santa Ana City Council candidates will you vote for this November?

This grant will supplement the federally funded Revive Santa Ana pandemic recovery program and other funding sources, allowing the City to revitalize its historic library. The City is planning a modernization and restoration project over the next 2 1/2 years that will transform the Main Library into a community hub for interactive learning and technology.

The Main Library building has lacked significant and critical maintenance repairs since it was built in 1960. Funding will address many needed upgrades and repairs to essential life-safety and building infrastructure, including the restoration of the building’s marble façade and windows; the remediation of any infestations, mold, and hazardous building materials; upgrading the fire detection alarm and sprinkler system; making ADA improvements and obtaining restroom compliance; and bringing elevators and other building systems up to code and upgrading an antiquated HVAC system along with all electrical and plumbing systems. The upgrades will also make the building more environmentally sustainable by using newer and more efficient components.

Additionally, this grant will help address important issues related to inclusivity, access and equity while preparing the Santa Ana Public Library to meet the City’s evolving needs for quality community and educational spaces for impacted, underserved and marginalized communities.
