The Orange Police pursued and arrested a hit and run DUI driver who killed a pedestrian

A hit and run vehicle killed a male adult pedestrian and the driver was apprehended after a pursuit, according to the Orange Police Department.

On Tuesday, at approximately 11:18 a.m., a patrol officer located a male adult with traumatic injuries lying in the roadway in the 300 block of N. Tustin Street.

Witnesses reported the pedestrian was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound gray sedan. The sedan then fled the scene. The Orange City Fire Department responded and pronounced the male victim to be deceased.

At 11:28 a.m., Orange PD detectives located a silver sedan with major front-end damage traveling north on Glassell Street at Katella Avenue.

The driver, Jonathan Lopez (05/01/1992) from Orange led officers on a short pursuit. After fleeing for more than a mile, the vehicle stopped at Tustin Street south of Adams Avenue. Lopez was arrested and transported to the Orange Police Department for further investigation.

Lopez displayed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was arrested for felony DUI, felony hit and run, evading, and vehicular homicide. Lopez has four prior convictions of DUI in the last 10 years.
