The new OC Animal Care facility will be open to the public this Saturday

Public Invited to New OC Animal Care Facility Grand Opening

Santa Ana, Calif. (March 16, 2018) — Please join the County of Orange for a public, family-friendly grand opening of the new OC Animal Care facility in Tustin.

Date: Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Location: 1630 Victory Road, Tustin, CA 92782

Residents can explore the new OC Animal Care facility while visiting animals as they enjoy their new spaces, talk with staff and participate in fun grand opening activities such as face-painting, food trucks and animal interactive programming.

The new, modern OC Animal Care shelter in Tustin replaces the aging OC Animal Care shelter in Orange built in the 1940s. The new facility is located on an approximately 10-acre site. It includes a two-story, approximately 30,000-square-foot main building, six stand-alone kennel buildings, multiple dog play yards, a “catio” (secured outdoor play area for cats), a barnyard and a “rabbitat” (rabbit housing area).

Features of the new facility include indoor/outdoor temperature-controlled areas for the animals; abundant use of natural light, superior ventilation and acoustical control; and design elements that translate into less stress for animals in the shelter. The new OC Animal Care shelter will serve 14 contract cities and unincorporated County areas.

Construction of the new shelter was approved by the Board of Supervisors on April 12, 2016. OC Public Works and the Board-approved contractor Snyder Langston began construction in August 2016. Land acquisition and construction of the new facility cost approximately $34.5 million.

Following the grand opening celebration on March 24, members of the public will have the opportunity to adopt animals from the new OC Animal Care facility beginning March 25.

Directions to the new shelter:

  • I-5: I-5 to Red Hill Avenue, turn south toward Newport Beach, then turn left on Victory Road.
  • SR-55: SR-55 to Dyer Road, turn east toward Tustin, turn left on Red Hill Ave. and turn right on Victory Road.
